My Favorite Quilt

Since one of my passions is Quilting, I thought today I would share one of my favorite quilts.  I finished this quilt in April of 2007.  Of course my subject just happens to be my grandaughter!  Her father took this picture of her sleeping in the back of his car, and I thought it would be perfect to do a portrait quilt from the picture.  I have always admired the work of Susan Carlson, so armed with her book and some advice from a couple friends, I began the journey.  My local quilt store happened to have the very same fabric in stock as the pillow my grandaughter was sleeping against in the car.  What a find!  Her yellow shirt was built from some yardage by Phil Beaver.  This quilt was such fun to make.  I don't know if the picture shows it or not, but once you have laid down all your bits and pieces of fabric, you cover it all with tulle to hold it down, then do your quilting.

So above is the original picture I started with,  and below I will feature the finished quilt.  The quilt ended up being gifted to my daughter and it now hangs proudly in our baby store.  I call the quilt "Taylor at Her Best" - appropriately named because she is such a chatter box!  I'm sure when she is sleeping is the only time she is quiet and still.

TAKING THE PLUNGE

I've finally done it -- I've created my Blog!  I decided it was time I joined the world of 'Bloggers' that I have envied for a few years now.  My experience has been interesting to say the least.  Not wanting to put the cart before the horse, so to speak, I decided to read "Blogging for Dummies" which I borrowed from my local library. Mistake #1!  As I closed the book I was sweating and gasping for air - this is no task for Dummies. I'm an old woman for crying out loud - all I want is a Blog!  So off I went to Blogger.com to get my feet wet.  Piece of cake.  What was I sweating and gasping about - it was so easy - even for me.

I'm sure I will find ways to fine tune my Blog in the days to come, and I'm positive I will be seeking the help of some of my 'smarter' blogging friends; but for now I must simply get more practise using my digital camera so I can get some pictures ready to go with my posts. Perhaps I see a Photography Class in my near future!  When I went to school, Photography wasn't a class option - I'm a point and click kind of gal.  So if you have a recommendation for a favorite, no brainer, point and click digital camera, please feel free to leave suggestions in my comments.
